Fishing
Fish beside marked blips, time consecutive Perfect catches and learn the current XP and per-fish sale rules.
Starting a fishing session
New sailors receive a Net from the Follower during their initial setup; other tools are sold by the Harbour Merchant. Equip your tool from Inventory. Your Fishing level must meet both its requirement and the species requirement. Tools have specific species coverage; upgrading a tool does not make it catch every lower-level fish.
Sail within 12 tiles of a designated fishing blip on the current-region chart and minimap, then stop in navigable water. The distance limit includes its edge. Harbours and green safe water remain closed, including the water beside the Merchant and Fish Market. Meet the blip’s tool and Fishing-level requirements, leave combat and keep an empty inventory slot.
Use Start fishing or F, then activate the catch inside the green zone. New sailors click Catch until the first voyage is complete; their normal catch key becomes available afterward. A session continues casting while its setup remains valid. Moving, changing equipment or entering combat stops it. A newly earned Fishing level is applied to the next cast.
Tools and progression
These tools remain useful for their own species after higher tools are unlocked. Bluefin Tuna currently has no compatible tool.

|---|---|---|
| Net | 1 | Anchovy |
| Fishing Rod | 10 | Sardines, Red Mullet, Sea Bass |
| Advanced Fishing Rod | 40 | Merluccius, Eel, Dentex |
| Harpoon | 70 | Amberjack, Swordfish |
| Advanced Harpoon | 100 | Beluga, Shark |
Species reference
The values below are base XP, before a Perfect streak or an existing XP boost. In 0.22.5 base XP is halved and rounded down: Sardines changes from 35 to 17. Previously earned XP is unchanged. Nominal Coins/kg includes the effective 2.5 multiplier; the exact two-stage per-fish rounding is explained below.
| Species | Fishing level | XP | Weight range (kg) | Nominal Coins/kg |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anchovy | 1 | 10 | 0.005–0.308 | 100 |
| Sardines | 10 | 17 | 0.02–1.143 | 60 |
| Red Mullet | 20 | 30 | 0.08–5.763 | 20 |
| Sea Bass | 30 | 50 | 0.25–47.253 | 5 |
| Merluccius | 40 | 80 | 0.3–59.103 | 7.5 |
| Eel | 50 | 125 | 0.2–31.403 | 17.5 |
| Dentex | 60 | 200 | 0.5–70.503 | 10 |
| Amberjack | 70 | 325 | 1–237.003 | 5 |
| Swordfish | 80 | 500 | 5–1,585.003 | 2.5 |
| Bluefin Tuna | 90 | 750 | 10–2,570.003 | 2.5 |
| Beluga | 100 | 1100 | 10–3,970.003 | 2.5 |
| Shark | 110 | 1600 | 5–3,185.003 | 5 |
Timing the catch
The indicator sweeps in both directions. Green produces a catch and the smaller Perfect area produces a Perfect catch. Reaching the flee deadline ends the attempt.
The next cast waits 2.5 seconds after resolving the previous attempt. Missing gives no catch or Fishing XP and resets the Perfect streak.
| Difficulty | One-way sweep | Fish flees after | Green width | Perfect width |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| easy | 1.8s | 4.2s | 27.778% of bar | 5.556% of bar |
| medium | 1.8s | 3.6s | 19.444% of bar | 3.889% of bar |
| hard | 1.8s | 3s | 12.5% of bar | 2.5% of bar |
How catch tables work
Only designated visible fishing blips authorize public fishing. The nearest eligible blip within 12 tiles provides its own catch table; a region-wide water band does not authorize a cast. The server checks the same spot at start, every repeated cast and before awarding a catch.
The game removes species unsupported by your tool or Fishing level, then selects among the remaining relative weights. The chart and minimap show the tools and minimum Fishing levels supported by each blip. Existing private tutorials use their own nearby beginner blip.
Perfect, rarity and extra rewards
Perfect starts with a 50% base chance to reroll weight and keep the heavier fish; current tool tuning can add to that chance. Rare, Epic and Legendary begin at the 75th, 95th, 99.5th percentiles. Discrete gram rounding can slightly change the resulting proportions.
A Perfect catch can produce a Message Bottle instead of a fish. The chance is set by the fishing ground: Net 1%, Fishing Rod 2%, Advanced Fishing Rod 3%, Harpoon 4%, Advanced Harpoon 5%. The ground uses the earliest tool tier supported by a species with positive weight in its catch table. Your Fishing level and equipped tool do not raise this chance. Private tutorials and boss arenas do not award bottles. A bottle gives the usual Fishing XP but no fish or fish-weight record. Hawkeye can add a second fish only when the bottle did not replace the catch.
Consecutive Perfect catches
Consecutive Perfect catches give +10% Fishing XP at catches 3–4, +15% at catches 5–9 and +25% from catch 10. The catch that reaches a threshold already receives its bonus.
Green catches, misses, a fled fish, stopping, cancellation and disconnect reset the Perfect streak. A committed Perfect bottle counts once. Small fractions of bonus XP carry within the streak; regional and first-voyage XP boosts apply afterward. The level-120 cap still applies.
| Consecutive Perfect catches | Bonus Fishing XP |
|---|---|
| 1–2 | 0% |
| 3–4 | 10% |
| 5–9 | 15% |
| 10 and above | 25% |
Sale payouts
For each fish, first round up(weight in grams × species base rate ÷ 1,000), then multiply by 5, divide by 2 and round upward again. This halves the previous actual payout, with any half Coin rounded up. Sell all sums these individual prices.
Prices of 5, 10 and 15 Coins in 0.22.4 become 3, 5 and 8 Coins. Selling those three fish together pays 16 Coins. Stored catches keep their weight, quality and ownership and use the same current sale rule. Quality, Perfect timing and batch size add no price multiplier.
| Species | Nominal Coins per kilogram |

| Sardines | 60 |
| Red Mullet | 20 |
| Sea Bass | 5 |
| Merluccius | 7.5 |
| Eel | 17.5 |
| Dentex | 10 |
